ANODYNE is a radio show highlighting underground, DIY, independent, lo-fi and experimental rock, pop, and electronic music. there’s not one good overarching descriptor for this type of music, but it started out as college rock, then people started calling it alternative until it got co-opted by “the man”. now it is called indie. whatever you want to call it, it is generally a step or two below the radar. on a good night ANODYNE is equal parts old, new, and local.
ANODYNE began in may 2008 on KBOO monday mornings at 3am. the target listener was pro-surreal, in a car driving all night through oregon to get to somewhere else. 3am started out loud and fast to keep the host awake, and by 5:30 had gradually simmered down to a solo acoustic vibe to prepare for the impending folk music show (“Folk Espresso”)
ANODYNE moved to midnights sunday (into monday) in november 2009. the show lasts till 3am.
Here are some bands and artists that have played live on ANODYNE: Boy Eats Drum Machine, Super XX Man, Matt Keating, Cars and Trains, Kristi Martel, Rose Polenzani. if you and your band are interesting in appearing live on ANODYNE send electronic maill to jbj AAAAT anodyneradio DOT calm.
